Marrakech’ surroundings vary from snowy mountaintop for skiing to beautiful desserts to explore by camel.
From lush valleys with calming waterfalls to medieval harbour cities by the beach.
Majid can help with the arrangement of trips/excursions and transportation (taxi or private driver).
The Valley of Ourika. A lush and cool valley with waterfalls, monkeys and fruits. Have a beautiful hike with local guides or hop on a camel.
Atlantic Ocean and Essaouira
The medieval harbour city of Essaouira. Go surfing or have a swim in the Atlantic Ocean. You can lunch with oysters. Or walk though the old port to the Orson Welles Square (he filmed Othello partly in Essaouira).
M’Goun High Atlas Mountains
A must do for people who love hiking: M’Goun High Atlas Mountains. A hike through this beautiful landscape can be best booked in Marrakech itself (Majid will help you get the best price).
El-Kelaâ M’Gouna is not one of the closest of Marrakech surroundings. You’ll have to drive about five hours to get there but you might find it worth your while. El-Kelaâ M’Gouna is famous for its rose culture. Especially in spring, you’ll see and smell Persian roses everywhere. They are the towns lifeblood as the villagers make products like rosewater and perfume.
The area is especially exciting during April and May. The famous three day Rose Festival takes place mid-May. Villages welcome a lot of guests and celebrate the harvest of the roses.
Erg Chebbi or Zagora desert
Visiting the deserts of Zagora or Erg-Chebbia is an unforgettable experience. You’ll probably need more than one day for this trip but you won’t be disappointed. Travel through the desert by car or camel and climb 150 meter (500 feet) high dunes.
Oukaïmeden is one of the most famous location for skiing in Africa. The resort is located in the Atlas Mountains at an altitude of about 3.000 meters (10.000 feet). It’s the highest top for winter sports on the continent.
Enjoy the views of inhabited mountains as far as you can see. Skiing might not be possible in summertime; you could observe rare butterflies as an alternative though.
